Arts Academy of Sedona Announces Upcoming Events in January

First Friday with music by Kaleidoscope Redrocks, Friday, Jan. 7, 5 to 8 p.m. Join us to celebrate First Friday and enjoy our art gallery and live music by Kaleidoscope Redrocks, the sister duo of Gracie and Tivona from the Village of Oak Creek. They’ll be playing rock, country, folk and pop favorites from the 1970’s. Free and open to public.

Professional Development Introductory 101 Series, Mondays beginning Jan. 10, 10 a.m. Arts Academy of Sedona’s introductory professional development series plans to elevate, align, and grow Sedona’s nonprofit landscape with professional development, consultation, community events and more. We believe in the power of a strong nonprofit community and are offering workshops to assist each nonprofit in Sedona to become the best possible version of their organization.

Arts Academy of Sedona introduces the 101 series to deepen and broaden local community business knowledge and skills so organizations can boost their impact. We hope to provide meaningful opportunities to connect and learn together as well as increase the flow of information and resources. Join us for our inaugural workshop on Jan. 10.

Empower yourself to make the most of your business decisions in respect to grants, social media, marketing and planning your own events. Come learn, create community and become the business success you’ve dreamed of. Each Workshop will have a lunch and networking component giving all attendees the ability to make valuable business connections.

Class One: Grants 101 with Kevin Adams, Jan. 10, 10 a.m. In this class, Kevin will discuss the art and science of grant writing focusing on how to craft winning proposals. Anyone can win a grant but let's take it a step further and not be the one and done grantee. Presentation is 10 to 11:30 a.m. Lunch and networking is 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Advance purchase tickets with lunch and networking are $79. Class only tickets in advance are $59 or $69 at the door. Open Mic Night and Master Drumming Class with Sabina Sandoval, Sunday, Jan. 16, 6 to 8 p.m. Join us for Sabina Sandoval's Free to be Me Drumming Event Master Class. Let our spirits soar, and the pulse of the earth be felt, by people united by the healing rhythm, the pounding of our hearts with one of the most powerful instruments in the world.... the drum. All ages and skill levels welcome. Drums will be provided. Drumming is 6 to 8 p.m. followed by Open Mic from 7 to 8 p.m. Tickets are $20. Purchase tickets at https://bit.ly/SAA-open-mic-weekly.

Beginner Ballroom Dancing with Dana on Mondays, Jan. 17 through Feb. 28, 7 to 8 p.m. This series will focus on one American Ballroom dance each week and a review of all the dances on the final week. Dana will offer up at least five steps per dance to ensure the students can dance a full song with the material they learn. By the end of the 6-week course students should be capable of dancing a simple waltz, foxtrot, American tango, rumba and cha-cha. (See the schedule below for which dances will be covered each week.) Advanced registration is suggested. Sign up before the series starts for the best price! For the six-week series, the price is $145 or Single Class advanced registration $25 per session. Friday Night At The Theatre, Friday, Jan. 21, 6 to 7:30 p.m. Join us on the third Friday each month for a fabulous theater experience. Voice Workshop with Kaatje Jones, Saturday, Jan. 22, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Free your voice! Speak your truth! Express yourself! The body remembers, and the voice holds the key to unlocking both memories and personal potential. In this two-hour class, finding your voice takes on a completely new meaning. COMING IN FEBRUARY

Black History Month: Featuring Permanent Collection by Thomas Gibbons, Feb. 4 – 6. Soon after African American businessman Sterling North becomes the new director of the Morris Foundation, he discovers that this world-famous art collection includes several significant African sculptures tucked away in storage. His proposal to add them to the public galleries is opposed by the foundation's long-time education director, who is loyal to the idiosyncratic wishes of the late Dr. Morris.
